LakeWalk for Cancer was first held in 2004 and has been held annually since then on the first Saturday of May by the Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital Foundation. It has become a signature fundraising event supporting cancer research and programs.
Over $750,000 has been raised to support a healing environment that provides care and treatment of local cancer patients and their families. All net proceeds from LakeWalk directly benefit programs in our nationally recognized Regional Cancer Center at Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital (OMH). The pledges you raise as a LakeWalker and the support of our LakeWalk sponsors fund local cancer patient's participation in clinical research trials using the latest treatment technologies, along with supportive services that help them and their families through the challenges related to a cancer diagnosis.
Cancer is a tragic part of life for many in our community. It will touch almost one of every four lives, and it is second only to heart disease as a cause of death.
LakeWalk for Cancer has been organized to help change these statistics. Join your family, friends, and neighbors. When you walk, you're literally taking steps to help fight cancer right here in Oconomowoc. Last year, LakeWalk raised $165,000.
In fact, $50 supports two patients receiving supportive care services, $150 supports 15 patients receiving Cancer Resource Binders, $500 supports time for a dedicated coordinator to work with patients as a care advocate, and every $2,500 raised through the Walk provides opportunity for one patient to participate in the clinical research trials.
