ProHealth Care Research Institute

Overview

The breadth, scope, and complexity of clinical research across the ProHealth Care system have increased dramatically over the past decade.  Currently, a robust array of research activity exists in several areas of the system, while many other areas are poised for similar research concentration in the near future.

ProHealth Care's Regional Cancer Center has built a reputation of excellence that ranks among the top centers in the United States for treatment of all forms of cancer.  Many of our patients participate in national studies, which offer access to the most advanced, clinically approved treatments available.  These studies are designed to answer specific questions about new drugs, devices, and therapies and help to find solutions to the causes of cancer and improve cancer outcomes.  In 2007, the Regional Cancer Center was recognized as one of the most successful community-based oncology clinical programs in the country for enrolling a record number of patients in cancer treatment and prevention trials.

The caliber of ProHealth Care's Neuroscience Center and our physician team has led to access to the latest clinical research.  This ensures that our patients are treated using the most innovative diagnostic and treatment options.  For example, the Neuroscience Center is serving as a national test site for a clinical trial on Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and multiple sclerosis through our nationally recognized Multiple Sclerosis clinic.

Rated one of the nation's 100 Top Cardiac Hospitals, by Thompson Healthcare (2007), Waukesha Memorial Hospital is consistently recognized for clinical excellence in cardiac care.  Many of our physicians invite their patients to participate in national studies involving major cardiac research centers throughout the country.  These studies offer access to the most advanced clinically approved treatments available and afford our patients the opportunity to share in the ultimate goal of preventing heart disease and discovering optimum treatment approaches.

Our Plan

Building on the tremendous success of the Regional Cancer Center, Neuroscience and Cardiac research programs as well as recognizing the increasing opportunities in the field, ProHealth Care seeks to establish the ProHealth Care Research Institute.  The Research Institute will advance ProHealth Care's growing leadership role in medical research and further enhance our reputation for medical excellence and sophistication, both locally and nationally.  The new Research Institute will continue to offer a variety of research studies for both patients and consumers to test new medicines, treatments, devices, and equipment.  Benefits to the ProHealth Care system include:

  • Providing patients innovative diagnostic and treatment options available only through applied research trials;
  • Offering attractive opportunities for PHC physicians interested in clinical research;
  • Continuing to attract the best and brightest clinical talent to our workforce.

Fundraising Goal: $1 million to help establish the Research Institute.
