Our NICU achievements are now able to speak for themselves.

Seven years ago, Lisa Walk's "normal" pregnancy took a surprise turn when she went into premature labor at just 24 weeks.

Little Calie was born weighing just 1 pound, 9 ounces. Fortunately, this all happened at Waukesha County's most advanced Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) located at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

Calie and Lisa Walk

Little Calie was born weighing just 1 pound, 9 ounces.

Calie spent the fi rst 84 days of her life with us, and those early weeks included some tense times, including heart surgery when she was two weeks old. But that was seven years ago. Calie is now one of the top students in her first grade class, and lists violin, basketball, and cheerleading as some of her many interests.

Lots of hospitals handle high risk deliveries. But we've been the most advanced NICU in the area for years. And we thought it might be nice to show how those beaniebaby sized babies can turn out, years down the road.

As Calie's mom says, "of all of life's miracles, the biggest ones come in the smallest packages."
