We are pleased to announce that digital mammography has been added to the menu of services at ProHealth Care's Crossings Medical and Well-being Center, located on Silver Spring Road & Creekwood Crossing in Menomonee Falls. ProHealth Care's Center for Breast Care now offers full-field digital mammography with immediate results - read by on-site board certified radiologists - at five convenient locations.

"Our new advanced all-digital capabilities enable us to provide better care and better studies for our patients - all performed conveniently during the same visit," says Jim Licari, manager of Medical Imaging at Crossings. "We are especially excited to offer mammography services in the warm, calming atmosphere that is unique to Crossings."

At Crossings, multiple services are conveniently available at the same place, at the same visit. On-site ultrasound and bone density also complement mammography services. If a patient's mammogram is abnormal, she is able to have an ultrasound done on the same day at Crossings. She could also choose to schedule other services at the medical or well-being spa.

Benefits of Digital Mammography

A National Cancer Institute study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in September 2005 reported that digital mammography was shown to improve breast cancer detection in 65 percent of women. Additional benefits of full-field digital mammography include:

  • Consistently generated images with good contrast resolution, image sharpness and quality - no matter the tissue density.
  • Images can be adjusted on a computer to enhance differences in tissue. This may decrease the need for obtaining additional breast images.
  • Images are acquired and processed in near-real time - faster time reduces patient discomfort.
  • Full-field digital mammography allows better visibility of tissue at the skin line than screen film mammography.
  • Requires a lower dose of radiation.
