Meet Annette Schmocker

Member, Patient & Family Advisory Council

Joined: June 2009

Why I joined the Council:

As a PHC employee, I wanted to have more opportunity to work with community members. The community members have a unique perspective and it helps me make better decisions on initiatives that are implemented by my department.

What is the most important project or initiative the Council has helped to influence or has achieved during the time you've been involved?

There are two current members, Nina Solberg and Kay Meisenheimer, that have been actively involved with an initiative I oversee called the core healing therapies.  These therapies are offered to inpatients at both OMH and WMH.  A team of 17 people have been tasked to develop a comprehensive and highly detailed plan to provide these therapies consistently to inpatients. Nina and Kay have provided invaluable input from a community, patient and family perspective.  Their suggestions have positively changed processes and education materials making the core healing therapies a better initiative.

What do you hope the Council achieves before your term is up?

I'd like to see more community members participate in more teams throughout the organization.

Why would you encourage others to join the Council?

To have the opportunity to provide a voice from a patient and family perspective when decisions are being made.

What do you believe makes OMH a patient and family centered care hospital?

Having a structured and active Council, and including community members in decision making efforts.
