Meet Carol Fontanez

Community Chair, Patient & Family Advisory Council

Joined: August 2009

Why did you join the Council?

To become an advocate for OMH and the Pro Health Care system. Also, to learn more about health care and issues affecting consumers as well as health care institutions. To make a difference in providing a caring and positively memorable patient experience.

What is the most important project or initiative the Council has helped to influence or has achieved during the time you've been involved?

The Council has been instrumental in the new patient wing, bringing alternative therapies to patients, and keeping the voice of the community front and center.

What do you hope the Council achieves before your term is up?

To continue to represent the voices of patients and the community; to keep the Council vibrant and strong; to grow the other levels/tiers of volunteer involvement so that we can become a more integral part of OMH's planning and decision-making

Why would you encourage others to join the Council?

To make a difference in the lives of patients and the community; to help keep OMH a strong and healthy member of the community.

What do you believe makes OMH a patient and family centered care hospital?

OMH listens and cares more than any other health care institution I know, as evidenced by the strength and level of involvement that the Council has in the hospital's plans, decisions, and patient experience.

Is there anything else that you'd like to share?

Health care is incredibly important to all of us. Become informed. Become involved. Make a difference in your community.
