Meet Chris Shaw

Member, Patient & Family Advisory Council

Why did you join the Council?

I have had professional experiences in Patient Focused Care and in facility redesign to promote Patient Focused Care.  In addition to these experiences I was responsible for coordinating the implementation of a new care delivery model which held core beliefs that were patient and family centered.  These experiences transformed me professionally and personally.

What is the most important project or initiative the Council has helped to influence or has achieved during the time you've been involved?

I believe the most important work has been the council itself.  This original group has developed and matured as a group in light of leadership changes.  Through the past several years the council has remained focused on their mission.  They have consistently been a strong voice in keeping the patient and family at the center of patient care and decisions influencing care delivery.

What do you hope the Council achieves before your term is up?

My wish is for an easy transition of council leadership and seeing opportunity to promote patient and family advisors in many more hospital projects, teams and work groups.

Why would you encourage others to join the Council?

Patient and family centered care is the right thing to do and when it is present it makes a profound difference in everyone- the patient, the family, the caregivers, the organization, the community.   What a great opportunity to affect change and make a difference for so many individuals.

What do you believe makes OMH a patient and family centered care hospital?

OMH's executive leadership clearly supports the principles and values of patient and family centered care.  Their commitment is strong, clear and unwavering.
