Why did you join the Council?
Today all of us have the opportunity to shape the future of health care deliver. Patients are demanding better quality and reduced costs. Government intervention is a real possibility. Working from "inside" gives us the best chance to effect positive change, to make a difference in the patients and their families experience, to improve the process of delivering their health care.
What is the most important project or initiative the Council has helped to influence or has achieved during the time you've been involved?
I believe the council has brought a unique community based voice to the leadership. I know they are listing, I see the results of the councils input. If there is one thing that stands out it is the focus on the role the family plays in the patient's outcome. Involving the family in the decision, healing, and follow up of a patients care makes a difference in everyone's life.
What do you hope the Council achieves before your term is up?
We all must continue the shift to patient and family centric care. I hope to continue the past work of the council by bring a strong voice of advocacy, communication, and inclusion.
Why would you encourage others to join the Council?
My parents gave me some of the best advise ever, "If you don't contribute to the solution your contribute to the problem. Every member of our community has their own gifts and skills. YOU are needed to contribute and help define the solution.
What do you believe makes OMH a patient and family centered care hospital?
A wise sage once said "the proof is in the pudding"! It is the commitment of the entire organization, from the leadership down through each and every employee, that is our proof. OMH cares about what we think, about constantly improving the experience for their patients and families, about quality and cost effective outcomes. I see patient and family centered care every time I see my physician, my nurse, my lab technician, and the thousands of support staff
