Meet Nina Solberg

Member, Patient & Family Advisory Council

Why did you join the Council?

I joined because I have been a patient and have hours of experience at the bedsides of multiple loved ones. I felt that the family's voice had no ear and when I learned about the council, I was intrigued. I am also a former LPN employee of WMH with 30 plus years of history. I am delighted to see them journey down this path. As a massage therapist in the community, I hear MANY stories from clients, and I want to see "us" continue to strive for the excellence I always believed "we" are capable of.

What is the most important project or initiative the Council has helped to influence or has achieved during the time you've been involved?

There have been so many areas that so many have been involved in. I am unable to say which has had the most impact. I believe each project, no matter how small, is a significant thread in the tapestry. From furniture selection input,  to work out sessions re: call light response time, to pet therapy, to input with the dietary dept.... all are small but significant.

What do you hope the Council achieves before your term is up?

M y vision for the council is to have it be embraced by the "system" to the degree that they cannot visualize moving forward without  the Council"s  input!

Why would you encourage others to join the Council?

To be a part of grass roots plans and be part of ongoing concerns for OUR community hospital is an honor. The Council  is a  group of staff and  community members. It is a very stimulating and enjoyable to have a voice and to have it heard.

What do you believe makes OMH a patient and family centered care hospital?

OMH is not fully there yet and are the first to admit it. This is the key! OMH is and will always be a work in progress in the arena of patient and family centered care as the needs change. The willingness to examine the feedback they receive from patients and families  is amazing.
