Many insurance companies do not charge co-pays, deductibles or co-insurance for preventive care. Preventive care refers to measures taken to prevent diseases from developing and to detect any disease at its early stages. Preventive services may include routine physical exams and screening tests tailored to your age, health and family history to help you stay healthy. However, if a significant part of your yearly physical exam involves non-preventive care, additional charges may apply. Curative care focuses on seeking a cure for an existing disease or medical condition. If your physician needs to take extra time or effort to manage your existing medical problems, orders tests to follow up on existing problems or evaluates new problems or symptoms, these services are curative, not preventive. This means you may be charged for another office visit, aco-pay or associated tests. You may also be asked to come back again to see your doctor at a future date. Sometimes screening tests detect abnormal results, and additional testing is ordered to either confirm the abnormal result or to identify appropriate next steps. These additional tests are often not considered preventive care, even if the initial screening test was preventive. We strongly encourage you to become familiar with your health insurance policy and its rules and regulations. If you have questions regarding your policy, please call your: • Insurance agent• Employer (work)• or the Medicare benefits toll-free phone line: 1-800-MEDICARE During your visit, please tell your doctor if your insurance has special rules about yearly exams or lab tests. We are unable to change how tests or visits are billed so that they are a covered benefit under your insurance plan.
