New Name. Same Mission. ProHealth Care Foundation

ProHealth Care, the health care leader in Waukesha County, has long relied on funds raised by the ProHealth Care Foundation to continuously improve the health of our community.

Serving all ProHealth Care

The ProHealth Care Foundation was formed in 2012 by joining the Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital and Waukesha Memorial Hospital Foundations. Both foundations had a strong tradition of philanthropic support from throughout Waukesha County, and we will build on that tradition as we continue to improve the health of our community.

The ProHealth Care Foundation supports ProHealth Care, Waukesha Memorial Hospital, Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital, AngelsGrace Hospice, ProHealth Home Care, ProHealth Home Hospice, ProHealth Care Medical Associates, the Rehabilitation Hospital of Wisconsin and other ProHealth Care services and facilities.

What is ProHealth Care?

ProHealth Care is one of the most advanced community-based health care systems in the country. We are locally owned and offer a full range of services, from fitness and wellness services to primary care and specialty care, hospital care, rehabilitation care, home and hospice care — and more. We’re dedicated to serving residents of Waukesha County and surrounding areas with the highest quality care to promote a healthier community.

What is the ProHealth Care Foundation?

The ProHealth Care Foundation was formed in 2012 by joining the Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital Foundation and Waukesha Memorial Hospital Foundation. Both foundations had a strong tradition of philanthropic support throughout Waukesha County, and we will build on that tradition as we continue to focus on the health of our community.

What are the advantages of joining the two foundations?

By integrating the two foundations, we centralized all ProHealth Care fundraising initiatives. This allows us to realize internal economies of scale and place a focus on cost-effective philanthropic gift development.

What does this mean to me as a donor?

The ProHealth Care Foundation remains committed to donors, ensuring that every gift is directed to the program or entity of your choosing. As a donor, the only change you’ll see is our name. Our commitment to you and the communities we serve remains constant. The Foundation will continue to focus on the health and wellness of our community, including special outreach projects that may arise.

How will this affect the foundation boards at each hospital?

Both the Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital and Waukesha Memorial Hospital Foundation boards have formally approved this integration. A new board of directors has been formed with representatives from both former foundations.

May I still restrict my gift to a specific program or fund?

Yes. You may designate gifts to ProHealth Care to support system-wide initiatives or to any related entity. If you wish to support a specific program or hospital, you may restrict your gift to support that program or entity, just as you always have.

What does this mean for the ProHealth Care Walks for Cancer?

The three ProHealth Care Walks for Cancer have enjoyed a long history in the communities of Waukesha, Oconomowoc and Mukwonago. The Walks will continue to take place in each of these three communities in the years ahead.

What if I want to give to one hospital?

You may. If you prefer to support a single hospital or another ProHealth Care entity, you may designate your gift for that purpose. Your gift will be deposited into a separate fund for the purpose you designate.

What will happen to existing endowed funds?

Endowed funds that have already been established for a specific entity or program will continue to be used to support that facility or area of care.

How does this change impact the community?

The integration allows further collaboration among our staff and streamlines the fundraising process. As a result, we can do more — and raise more — in support of programs and initiatives that benefit the communities we serve.

Where will the Foundation be located?

The ProHealth Care Foundation retains a presence at Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital, Waukesha Memorial Hospital and AngelsGrace Hospice, with staff available to assist you with gifts to any entity.

What is WomenConnected?

WomenConnected is a women's philanthropic group founded in 2000 and formed to inspire, educate and encourage women to pool their charitable gifts to improve the health of their community. We offer members the exciting opportunity to make a remarkable impact by combining their resources to fund emerging health care services at ProHealth Care. Members are not required to make a significant time commitment. As a member, you participate in WomenConnected to the extent you're able.

What we do

Each fall, ProHealth Care staff is invited to apply for grants from WomenConnected to fund needed programs. Members of our Research & Grants Committee review applications and recommend grants to be approved by the WomenConnected membership. Grant recipients provide reports back to WomenConnected members and recipients present how they're using the grant monies at our Annual Luncheon held each June.

The following grants are just a sample of the programs that have received funding since 2000.

  • $75,000 to support research at Waukesha Memorial Hospital, including: concussion, lung cancer, heart attack and chemo brain research programs
  • $12,500 to provide screening and diagnostic services to women who do not qualify for other assistance programs
  • $12,650 to support the Safe Sleep Initiative and purchase Sleep Sack wearable blankets for all babies born at Waukesha Memorial Hospital
  • $39,650 to train Emergency Department nurses in the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program, which cares for and counsels victims of sexual assault and abuse
  • $13,432 to support NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for the Hospitalized Elderly)

"The generous donation from WomenConnected to begin our infant Sleep Sack program has impacted newborn safety throughout our community."

IRA rollover provision is back

Take advantage of a great opportunity for 2013 giving

Through the recently signed American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, Congress has renewed special incentives to make charitable gifts through individual retirement accounts. This legislation is in effect until December 31, 2013.

Donors age 70½ or older are once again eligible to move up to $100,000 from their IRAs directly to qualified charities without having to pay income taxes on the money.

Transfers should be made directly from your IRA trustee and the check made payable to the ProHealth Care Foundation. Donors continue to have the opportunity to direct their contribution to the ProHealth program of your choice.

Contact Nancy Seidl Nelson at 262-928-4071 or via email at nancy.seidlnelson@phci.org to discuss the program you wish to support and for additional information as to how you can take advantage of this great opportunity.
