ProHealth Care offers physical therapy appointments without a physician’s referral

Patients can now make appointments for physical therapy at several of ProHealth Care’s outpatient Rehabilitation Services locations without a physician referral. Convenient same-day and next-day appointments are available in Hartland, Mukwonago, Muskego, New Berlin, Oconomowoc, Pewaukee and Waukesha.

“We’re excited to provide direct access for patients,” said Jill Johnston, interim director of outpatient therapy. “We are able to assess patients and provide interventions quickly so they can get relief faster.”

Direct patient referrals are accepted for a variety of rehabilitation services including orthopedic, pediatric, geriatric, neurologic, aquatic, cancer, vestibular, sports medicine and pelvic floor therapy.

Direct access allows ProHealth to make rehabilitation care available to more people, including new patients, students from out of state, and people without primary care providers. ProHealth physical therapists will refer patients who may need radiology services to a primary care provider or other specialist before developing a personalized treatment plan.

Direct patient referrals are designed to:

  • Allow patients to access rehabilitation services more efficiently.

  • Increase patient satisfaction.

  • Reduce the cost of care.

ProHealth recommends that patients contact their health plans to verify coverage before scheduling physical therapy appointments. To schedule an appointment with any of ProHealth Care’s physical therapists accepting direct referrals, patients can call 262-928-4636. Therapist profiles can be viewed at ProHealthCare.org/PhysicalTherapistDirectory.
