Free ProHealth Care Senior Wellness Fair planned for Oct. 15

ProHealth Care has scheduled a new free event for seniors – the ProHealth Care Senior Wellness Fair. The fair will be held from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 15 at the Ingleside Hotel in Pewaukee.

ProHealth Care Senior Wellness Fair will include:

  • Continental breakfast

  • Flu vaccinations (no appointment is needed)

  • Health screenings

  • Resource exhibits

  • Keynote presentations

  • Breakout sessions on several topics

Presentations will begin at 8 a.m. with “Ageism: It’s Bad for Everyone’s Health,” followed by “Understanding Medicare.”

Eight breakout sessions will focus on:

  • Community resources

  • Medication management

  • Home care, nursing care and hospice care

  • High-tech health care

  • Caregiving

  • Advance care planning

  • Health care coverage

  • Choosing nutritious foods at the grocery store.

The wellness fair and other ProHealth programs help seniors learn about resources available to them so they can maintain quality of life and live longer.

“Seniors represent almost a third of our county’s population,” said Sarah Butz, ProHealth’s director of community benefit. “Seniors experience better health and vitality when they are immunized, eat nutritious food, exercise, manage their medications, and have access to high quality health care.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control, people 65 and older are at risk of serious health complications from influenza and have the highest rates of hospitalization and death related to severe forms of the illness. Vaccination is the best protection against influenza.

Payment for the influenza vaccinations at the wellness fair must be made at the time of vaccination. Cash, check and credit cards will be accepted, and insurance can be billed. Individuals are encouraged to verify insurance coverage in advance to ensure that an immunization by ProHealth providers will be covered.

Community members of any age can find information and registration for the ProHealth Care Senior Wellness Fair and other programs at ProHealthCare.org/Classes.
