Nerve Blocks

Mar 25, 2018

Doug Bell, MD, Anesthesiologist

An anesthesiologist uses a nerve block to numb a region of the body and provide pain relief before, during and after surgery. A small pump filled with local anesthetic delivers medication to a specific nerve. This blocks the transmission of pain signals, allowing patients to start rehab and return home from the hospital sooner, and with fewer side effects than narcotic pain medications. Most patients go home with their pump and can remove it in two to three days.
