Understanding esophageal manometry
Esophageal manometry is useful in diagnosing motility (movement) disorders of the esophagus. A tiny catheter is gently advanced through your nose. As the catheter is slowly withdrawn, pressures in your esophagus are measured while you take swallows, with the assistance of a computer.
