Center for Lung/Thoracic Care

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States for men and women, taking more lives than breast, prostate and colorectal cancers combined. To help patients beat these odds, ProHealth Care's Regional Cancer Center developed the Center for Lung / Thoracic Care.

Our services

Each patient's care is coordinated and administered by a team of specialists. A dedicated care coordinator makes the journey easier for patients, guiding them through all aspects of diagnosis and treatment.

  • Sophisticated diagnostic capabilities, including PET/CT scans and superDimension
  • Advanced lung surgery, including VATS (video-assisted thorascopic surgery)
  • Radiation oncology, including the revolutionary CyberKnife technology
  • Medical oncology, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy and drug therapy
  • Second opinion program , providing convenience and peace of mind from meeting all the specialists involved -- such as cardiothoracic surgeons, pulmonologists and oncologists -- in each patient's care during one visit.  Patients receive their individual treatment plan at the conclusion of this same one-day appointment.

Why choose us?

Leading technology

  • The Center for Lung/Thoracic Care was the first in Wisconsin to offer the superDimension inReachTM System. With this system physicians can perform electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopies -- which go beyond the reach of traditional bronchoscopy -- to locate, test and diagnose as well as potentially treat lesions in hard to reach areas of the lungs. This high-tech outpatient procedure is safer and more cost-effective for patients and enables lung cancer to be diagnosed at earlier stages when it is most responsive to treatment.
  • We offer Video Assisted Thorascopic Surgery (VATS), an advanced minimally invasive procedure that allows surgeons to examine the chest cavity and perform a variety of procedures to treat lung cancer and other lung diseases.

Team approach to care

  • Experienced surgeons with special expertise in thoracic oncology
  • Multidisciplinary conferences with multiple second opinions from a number of physician specialists -- all at one time

Dedicated care coordinator

  • Dedicated care coordinator to serve as each patient's advocate, to help make appointments, provide support and guide patients through all aspects of treatment, helping them feel more comfortable and make informed decisions about their care.

Clinical research programs

  • Our patients have access to a large number of the most promising lung cancer clinical research programs, including the International Early Lung Cancer Action Project (I-ELCAP).
