A risk factor is anything that increases a person's chances of getting a disease. Some risk factors for heart disease are out of your control. This includes things like increasing age as well as heredity, such as race or a family history of heart disease.
Most risk factors, however, are within your control.
Minimizing these things in your life can significantly lower your risk of heart disease:
Make an appointment with your doctor to discuss your unique risks. With a little effort, you have the potential to add years to your life.
