Oconomowoc Memorial Emergency Care Awarded Highest Achievement in Patient Satisfaction Four Years in a Row Summit Award

Patient satisfaction continually achieved above the 95th percentile

Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital has become the first hospital in Wisconsin to receive the prestigious Press Ganey Summit Award for excellence in emergency care four years in a row.

The 2011 Summit Award for patient satisfaction was  achieved by consistently sustaining an overall rank above the 95th percentile in the Press Ganey patient satisfaction database for three consecutive years.

The department earned this much-coveted patient satisfaction award through excellent patient care, compassion, respect and communication across the board — often achieving 99th percentile.

"We treat our patients the way we would want to be treated," says Tim Westlake, MD, medical director of Oconomowoc Memorial's emergency department. "Providing great care and achieving an outstanding level of patient satisfaction are what we strive for every day."

"The Summit Award is extremely challenging to attain, and to consistently maintain such a high level of patient satisfaction in an emergency department setting is almost unheard of in the hospital industry," says John Robertstad, president of ProHealth Care's hospital division. "Hospitals across the nation struggle with improving patient satisfaction in their emergency departments."

About the award

To earn the Summit Award, each winning facility must achieve and maintain the extraordinary. Recipients of the award truly set themselves apart from the competition by demonstrating their dedication to improvement and sustaining excellence in both quality of care, as well as employee and physician satisfaction.

Hospitals must sustain patient satisfaction scores at the 95th percentile or higher during three consecutive years to qualify for the Summit Award. Oconomowoc Memorial's emergency department also received the award in 2008, 2009 and 2010, which means it has maintained a high satisfaction ranking every year since 2005.
