Patient Benefits of the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR)

Each year, approximately 69,000 children are born in Wisconsin.  Every one of these children will need 18-22 immunizations by the time they turn six to protect them from debilitating, life-threatening diseases.

The WIR's most basic function is to be a tracking tool to help keep children on schedule for their recommended immunizations. --Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services

ProHealth Care Medical Associates Participates

ProHealth Care Medical Associates (PHCMA) is pleased to announce our participation in the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR) initiative to eliminate vaccine preventable disease.

The WIR is a secure Internet system that records and tracks immunization dates of Wisconsin residents to:

  • Have immunizations given by all providers available in a central location
  • Allow schools and health care providers to view an accurate record of an individual's complete vaccine history
  • Allow adults to access their immunization records, as well as allow parents to access their child's immunization records if a social security number is provided
  • Make sure that individuals receive immunizations according to recommended guidelines
  • Prevent duplicate vaccinations of individuals

Beginning January 2009, PHCMA will send all immunization records to the WIR.  Patients/legal guardians who do not want immunization records sent must opt out unless they have previously done so.

For more information or to opt out, ask a health care staff member or visit http://dhfswir.org/ .
