Immediate mammogram results

We know the anxiety that comes with waiting for important test results. That’s why, we're still the first and only health care organization in the area to offer immediate screening results. When you have your mammogram by 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, you’ll get your results immediately — before you walk out our door. Because keeping healthy shouldn’t be keeping you up at night.

A new dimension in breast cancer detection: 3D mammography

ProHealth Care was the first health care system in Wisconsin to make 3D mammography (also known as tomosynthesis) available to women. Today this technological advancement is available at all of our breast imaging locations, in addition to 2D mammography, and helps detect breast cancer in its earliest stages, when it’s most treatable.

3D mammography allows radiologists to see breast tissue detail in ways never before possible. Instead of reviewing your breast images in a traditional two-dimensional picture, your breast health team can now view your breast tissue through a series of thin, detailed images, or “slices."

The 3D experience is nearly identical to that of a typical digital mammogram. The images are taken from the same positions and the same amount of compression is required. The only difference is that the test takes an extra 16 seconds for the device to sweep above the breast and take an additional 15 low-dose images.

Research has shown that this advanced technology may detect up to 41 percent more cancers than 2D mammography alone and reduce your need to return for additional testing by up to 40 percent. There has also been a decrease in the number of biopsies needed to rule out disease.

Every woman can benefit from 3D mammography. We believe women with dense breast tissue, breast cancer survivors, and those with a genetic predisposition to breast cancer will benefit the most. Your physician may recommend 3D mammography for your annual screening or you can request it. A physician referral is not required.

Because the technology is new, insurance coverage for 3D technology varies among plans. Your plan may not cover the $60 3D portion of the exam. Contact your employer to confirm coverage. Any additional cost may be an eligible expense through your flexible spending account.
