Philosophy of care

"As an oncology nurse practitioner, my goal is to help patients continue to live their best life while under going cancer treatment. I support them by managing their symptoms, providing emotional support and educating them so that they can feel their best and continue to participate in what brings them joy in their life. The connections with patients is the reason I enjoy working as a nurse practitioner."

Katie Asmus asked me a question about an issue I had mentioned to her peripherally in my previous visit. I was impressed that she had paid such close attention to -- and remembered! -- what I had said. Over the last 18 months we have developed a nurse/patient relationship that I have found very exceptional.

The office was very busy, so I needed to wait half an hour after my appointment time to be seen, but I was not upset because (1) I had purposely cheated my personal schedule, as usual, (2) this Friday was unusually busy for the clinic, (3) I was sure that every patient was given the save amount of careful attention as I was accustomed to receiving. Thank you!

I was very sick due to chemotherapy. Nausea & anxiety were extra high. I was given different treatments until Lotazapam worked for me.
