Woman getting a vascular screening.

Vascular screening

Be proactive about your health. Visit ProHealth Care for screening tests that find vascular disease early – so you can get timely treatment.

Your blood vessel check-up

Vascular screenings check your blood vessels for blockages or accumulations of plaque. When you and your doctor find these problems early, you may be able to help prevent life-threatening conditions such as stroke and aneurysm.

Should I get vascular screening tests?

Talk to your doctor about whether vascular screenings are right for you. Your doctor may recommend screenings if you’re over 55 years old and have other risk factors for vascular disease, such as:

  • Diabetes
  • Family history of aneurysms or vascular disease
  • High cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Tobacco use

Vascular screening tests

Your vascular screening package includes:

  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) screening – Uses ultrasound to check for weakness or narrowing in the walls of the major blood vessel in your abdomen (aorta) that supplies blood to your legs. If the wall of your aorta weakens, it can balloon out and cause a rupture.
  • Carotid artery disease (CAD) screening – Takes ultrasound images of the blood vessels (carotid arteries) on each side of your neck that flow to your brain to check for narrowing or clogging from plaque buildup.
  • Peripheral artery disease (PAD) screening – Compares the blood pressure in your lower legs to the blood pressure in your arms; a lower blood pressure reading in your leg is a sign of artery blockage.

Your results

You’ll receive preliminary screening results before you leave. Rely on a board certified vascular physician at ProHealth to review and post your final results in your MyChart account.

Discuss your results with your primary care physician to decide if you need follow-up care. If you don’t have a primary care physician, call 262-928-2745. A physician referral specialist at ProHealth can help you find one.

Payments and insurance

Pay $99 for your screening at your appointment. Medicare and most insurance companies don’t cover the cost of the vascular screenings in our specially priced package. The cost may be an eligible expense through your flexible spending account. Ask about purchasing vascular screening gifts cards for loved ones.
