ProHealth Care has added an advanced 3 tesla (3T) MRI scanner to its diagnostic imaging capabilities. The new system is located at ProHealth’s Pewaukee clinical campus, on Pewaukee Road just north of I-94.
Magnetic resonance imaging is a powerful tool that uses a magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of organs and tissues within the body. A single exam results in multiple images.
The 3T MRI scanner features the most powerful magnet available for clinical use and delivers fast images with exceptional anatomic detail. Scans from a 3T scanner benefit many specialists, including neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, cardiologists and oncologists.
“This latest system is particularly beneficial for cancer patients, as it enables our radiation oncologists to treat the patient's tumor while sparing nearby healthy tissue,” said Jeffrey Fete, MD, a diagnostic radiologist at ProHealth Care. “It also is used to diagnose and monitor a wide variety of other conditions, from multiple sclerosis to liver cirrhosis. We will use this system to guide prostate biopsies, accurately localize and stage prostate cancer, and guide treatment.”
This is the third wide bore MRI scanner in use at ProHealth Care. Like the other wide bore scanners, the 3T MRI scanner has a larger opening than traditional MRI scanners, increasing the comfort levels of larger patients and those who are claustrophobic. The design also allows more tests to be conducted with the patient’s head outside of the scanner.
The 3T MRI scanner enhances the comprehensive imaging services available at the Pewaukee campus. If you require an MRI and would like to schedule an exam, call 262-928-3000.
