ProHealth Care study focuses on sexual health in postmenopausal women

ProHealth Care’s Women’s Services team is seeking volunteers to participate in a study about sexual health in postmenopausal women. The study focuses on women who are sexually active and have concerns about physical symptoms, sexual interest and response. It is not intended for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer or who are not postmenopausal.

“This study is important because there is not a lot of research available on women and sexual health,” said ProHealth Medical Group urogynecologist Sarit Aschkenazi, MD, who is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and urogynecology. “It will help answer whether postmenopausal women can be treated with a fully approved medication that is already widely used for other symptoms.”

The study will include a physical evaluation, validated research questionnaires, and three additional office visits over a three-month period. The physical exam and office visits are treated as typical health care visits for insurance purposes and co-pays may apply. Individuals can arrange for the visits during regular office hours, according to their personal schedules.

Participants will receive an FDA-approved medication containing estrogen at no cost for the duration of their individual study. Volunteers will not be paid for their participation.

The study is being overseen by an Institutional Review Board that is formally designated to review and monitor biomedical research.

Women who would like more information about the study can contact ProHealth Care’s Women’s Health Services team at 262-928-2595.
