ProHealth Care offers COVID-19 booster shots

Booster shots.

ProHealth Care is now offering booster shots for all three of the COVID-19 vaccines at its vaccination clinic at ProHealth Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention note that you are eligible to receive a booster shot to further strengthen your immunity if you meet the following criteria:

  • You were fully vaccinated with the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine and:
    • It has been at least six months since your second shot.
    • You fall into at least one of the following categories:

-   You are 65 or older.

-   You are 18 to 64 and are at increased risk of COVID-19 exposure, infection or transmission because of a medical condition or your employment.

  • You were vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and it has been at least two months since you received your shot.

If you wish, you can switch COVID-19 vaccines when getting a booster – an approach that has been called mix and match. Federal and state health authorities have not provided recommendations regarding the best vaccine or approach for boosters.

“With three safe and effective COVID-19 booster options available, we can all take another step to protect ourselves and slow the spread of COVID-19 throughout our community,” said Art Coffey, ProHealth Care’s chief physician operations officer. “We expect the demand for boosters to be high and are working to make the vaccines available to anyone who is interested.”

The initial vaccination helps the body build immunity and a booster strengthens and extends that protection. Talk with your medical provider if you are unsure whether to get a booster shot.

ProHealth Care also continues to provide shots for anyone who has not yet been vaccinated. Those who are not yet vaccinated are strongly encouraged to act now to protect themselves and those around them, even if they have had the virus.

First shots and booster appointments at ProHealth Care can be scheduled by calling 262-928-5566. Schedulers are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ProHealth patients can also use their ProHealth MyChart accounts to schedule booster shots online. Walk-ins will not be accepted.

To find other COVID-19 vaccine providers in the community, visit Vaccines.gov or call 211 or 877-947-2211.

Those who come to ProHealth Care’s vaccination clinic also will have an opportunity to receive an influenza vaccination at the same time.
