Stepping Forward: Journey of Joint Wellness

Unique to ProHealth Care, the Stepping Forward program provides joint replacement surgery patients with a comprehensive education to set expectations about the procedure. The program also eases fears by providing the opportunity for camaraderie with other patients.

Stepping Forward is taught by experienced nurses, therapists and social workers. During the one-time session, patients and their caregivers are provided with a step-by-step guide that contains information on topics such as:

  • Preparing and planning for surgery

  • Completing necessary paperwork

  • Proper nutrition to aid with recovery

  • Post-operative rehabilitation

  • Using multiple healing therapies and other methods to manage discomfort.

If your joint replacement procedure is scheduled to be performed at a ProHealth Care hospital, ask your surgeon about the Stepping Forward program. New joint-replacement patients, or joint-replacement patients who have had joint-replacement surgery over a year ago, will be registered for our Stepping Forward class as a part of their pre-surgery registration. The class lasts between 60-90 minutes is held at either ProHealth Waukesha Memorial Hospital or ProHealth Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital. Patients are encouraged to bring a significant other, who will be assisting them during their recovery period, with them to the class. There is no additional charge for Stepping Forward. It is a part of the pre-surgery program for joint-replacement patients. For more information about the class schedule, call 262-928-3000.
