Frozen Section Procedure

Jan 14, 2018

Sherri Mann, MD, Pathologist

When a mass is encountered during surgery, pathologists at ProHealth perform a frozen section procedure to help the surgeon determine how to proceed. A tissue specimen is sent to the lab where it is examined, frozen, cut, stained and evaluated. Typically, the entire process takes 20 minutes and occurs while the patient is still in the operating room. The diagnosis provided by the pathologists helps surgeons achieve the best possible outcome for their patients.
